CeiED's presence at the SPCE Congress, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Porto
The 17th Congress of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences was held on November 14-16 at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto, under the theme Education, Freedom and Democracy. In the context of the ACT4WBeing project, CeiED researchers Elsa Estrela, Rosa Serradas Duarte, Louise Lima and Susana Oliveira presented a proposal for a panel entitled Participation and democracy in educational processes: the effects of curricular autonomy on teacher professionalism. Also taking part in the panel were researchers Sílvia de Almeida and Nádia Ferreira, both from the EDUNOVA.ISPA Research Center. Four papers were presented, with the following titles: 1) ACT4WBeing - Curricular autonomy and teacher involvement and well-being 2) ACT4WBeing - Curricular autonomy and teacher involvement and well-being: perspectives from the literature 3) Curriculum autonomy and teachers as curriculum designers 4) Autonomy in educational processes: knowing the reality to support improvement processes The external consultant for the project from which the panel was built, Professor Rui Trindade, was also present in the room and made an initial assessment of the results presented, considering the project to be of great relevance at this time in history. The four interventions focused on teaching professionalism, especially with regard to teachers' agency when it comes to curricular decision-making. It was a very participatory moment, with very pertinent reflections that will be taken into account in the development of the project, but also in future projects that can be developed from the network that has been created.
CeiED presence at ECER, University of Cyprus
Researchers Elsa Estrela and Susana Roxo Oliveira represented CeiED and Universidade Lusófona at the European Conference on Educational Research (ECER), organized by the European Education Research Association (EERA), at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, and contributed to various networks at the conference. As part of the Emerging Researchers' Conference (ERC), which took place on August 26 and 27, doctoral student Susana Oliveira took part in a session in which she presented her doctoral project. She also took part in a session of network 23, Policy Studies and Politics of Education, in which she presented a study also related to her project, especially with regard to teaching professionalism. Integrated researcher Elsa Estrela took part in a session of network 10, Teacher Education Research, in which she gave two presentations related to the project she directs, Act4Wbeing. In the first, she presented the project's problems, as well as some of the data resulting from the analysis carried out. In the second, together with Susana Oliveira, she presented the results of the systematic literature review based on the main concepts involved in the project. She also moderated two sessions of the same network on different issues: social justice in teaching professionalism and teachers and technology. These were very intense days of fruitful contacts and intellectual discussion, but also of happy encounters, such as those between members of the Board of the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences, of which researcher Elsa Estrela is a member. ECER was organized by the European Education Research Association (EERA), which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Considered to be the largest European congress on education, ECER was attended by more than 2,300 researchers from 71 countries, who together discussed issues based on the common theme Education in an Age of Uncertainty: memory and hope for the future.
EERA (European Educational Research Association) is celebrating 30 years of service with the ECER 2024 conference, which will be held in Nicosia, Cyprus. Under the theme “Education in an Age of Uncertainty: Memory and Hope for the Future”, the event will address the social, political and economic challenges impacting education.
The conference will highlight how educators and researchers have responded to economic crises, pandemics and conflicts, while also exploring the issue of migration and its implications for European identity.
In addition to enriching debates, participants will be able to enjoy the rich history and culture of Cyprus, appreciate the beautiful landscapes and excellent cuisine that the island offers. EERA invites everyone to take part in this unique event, which promises to inspire hope and resilience in the field of education.
